Shouldn’t We Be Happy That The Oil Companies Are Raising Their Prices On Gas?

I mean, for the environmentalists. Shouldn’t they be happy that they are forcing America to conserve gas and start being smart about their gas emmisions. People are buying hybrids. And not driving as much. Shouldn’t we be happy? Eventually, this will force us to invent a new source of fuel and stop relying on oil.

It may be good for the environment but think of all the people in this country who are barely making it through the day, who live in rural places and drive older cars that take lots of gas. Think about the single mom who has to walk ten miles down a highway to her waitressing job because she had to decide between buying gas for her car or buying food for her kids. I’ve noticed that many people who live in cities with public transport and well-off people who can buy the hybrids and the gas with no problem think that stiff gas taxes are a good idea for environment, but no, that only hurts those who are already hurting. We should have been using some of that money which the government wastes every year to research alternative fuels and we should have been raising mileage standards on cars and we should have been doing it 20 years ago.
By the way, the government takes in as much money in taxes from gasoline sales as the oil companies make in profit.

Yes, although prices have gone down recently. We should put a large tax on gas and use the money to invest in alternative fuel technolgy, but it will never happen because Americans are tax-ophobes.

Actually, gasoline prices are going down now. But I agree, we should let the market set prices.

I agree, use the money to find alternativ fuel and battle global warming, all the while making people conserve fuel. Yea, the economy would take a serious hit, but we have billions and billions to kill off Iraq. The real issue here is if we dont do something, global warming gets worse and worse, Thanks, Republicans for stickong you head in the sand, you screwed us.

Well oil companies don’t set the oil prices they take what the refineries will pay for the crude oil. Then it is sold to the retailers that are mostly franchises. The big oil companies do own some. The oils companies do not make as much as the government per gallon of gas already. They are already investing in billions of dollers in finding alternitives. Texas A&M recieves hundereds of millions of dollars to research alternitive fuels. Whatever oil company finds the alternative can patent and have an edge in the energy industry. Gas should not be taxed much more.

No. It’s hurting the poor working class who probably already use most of their gas for driving to and from work.
