Should someone stop the candidates from seeking a “tax holiday” of the Fed Gas Tax?
Why?
Because it’s ONLY 18.4 cents per gallon (diesel 24.4 cents).
If that is eliminated, it isn’t going to make an iota of difference to the average gasoline purchaser when prices are approaching $5 per gallon, yet it’s going to hasten the bankruptcy of the Highway Trust Fund and will cause more harm than good.
Did you know that during a three-month suspension, the average driver would save only about $28?
Did you also know the soaring oil prices lifted Chevron Corp.’s annual profit to $18.7 billion in 2007?
Exxon Mobil reported on Friday that its 2007 profit hit $40.6 billion.
Would you agree the priority some candidates have of how to address the rising cost of our gasoline is being addressed in the wrong direction?

interesting
Gene thats one side of the argument, Let take SC on 95,
they receive funds and havent touched there portion of that
interstate starting from the GA border to NC, So if they have
it they need to spend it. I would much rather have the State,
take care of there own roads, as they did years ago..The
Feds dangle the carrott and rarely come through. I really
don;t have an answer as to what could be done. This needs
to be addressed,, Maybe make all Interstates toll roads,
Pay so much when you enter, and when you exit, for road
reconstruction,, get the feds out of the mix. In all my years
of Federal Service, Iv’e not failed to see one thing the feds
can’t screw up. We need relief now,, Not 6 months from now,
If someone has a better Idea than the present I sure wish they
would offer it,
In Texas, the money has already been stolen and the pols are forcing toll roads down our necks. We can offer welfare to Mexico but I have to drive on crappy streets. I’d rather have the 40c per gallon tax in my pocket.
Those taxes are the results of the same Democratic party that fenced off Alaska to drilling just as OPEC began to extort us, again. I wonder how many of them are oil speculators.
Congress should forget the “tax holiday” on gas and drill for oil wherever oil is as well as allow for the construction of additional refineries. Congress should also allow drastically expanded use of nuclear energy To do this they have to stand up to environmentalist and they simply will not do that. Something of equal concern is the base line tax Hillary has talked about for oil companies whereas once their profits exceed a certain amount (determined by her I suppose) a “windfall” profit tax is imposed. That’s especially scary when one considers that her “windfall tax” can also apply to every industry in America. Such as this does not create a business friendly climate in this country which any capitalistic society must have – or does she want to change that too?
