Saving Gas Receipts For Income Tax Time?
I’m a college student and I commute. I hear that if I save my gas receipts I can claim it on my income tax. How exactly does that work and is it more of a hassle then it’s worth? Thanks!

Gas receipts (and tolls) are only deductible if you are commuting for wok..if your job has relocated you and/or requires you to travel for wrk..

So sorry, commuting is not deductible travel…and gas taxes haven’t been deductible for decades.
If you are working and going to work-related classes, that’s different. Then you keep track of your mileage. If you itemize your deductions, you can take work-related education costs (which this would be) as a miscellaneous deduction on Schedule A Line 21.

Travel expenses are only allowed for self employed people not for employees or college students. You got bad advice from a self employed person.
