Comments on Saving Fuel, Does Coasting Your Car Actually Save On Juice?
To those that say coasting is dangerous or illegal, they are incorrect in their assessment. Coasting has the main advantage of saving on gas. I have learned this throughout my driving experience. The reason you save on gas when coasting is because you are allowing the car’s lone velocity to move the car instead of you pressing the gas pedal to move the car. For instance, when you are coming down a hill or a slope, if you take your foot off of the pedal the car will continue to move and even increase in speed. That is because the car is enacting with the steepness of the hill and it increases the speed without you the driver doing anything. Coasting isn’t dangerous because you still have control over the steering. But it does save on gas.
Coasting is another one of those “feel-good” initiatives promoted by tree-huggers. It’s dangerous and, if it isn’t illegal, it should be! Here in Canada, I heard several interviews last summer on the Communist Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) promoting this nonsense. Getting rear-ended isn’t punishment enough for the idiots who are reckless enough to actually do this.
