Reasons to buy a manual car?
With today’s auto transmissions being as good if not better than manual transmissions in saving fuel why is there a reason to buy a manual?
Plus now there are transmissions that have the best of both auto-manual or something like that.

Comments on Reasons to buy a manual car?
well, a standard auto is not going to have as good of gas mileage as a manual if it has a torque converter, which most have. Only CVT’s don’t and not many cars have them not. So manuals can still save you gas. Also I always thought you weren’t driving unless you had a manual, its a totally different experience. Also you can accelerate faster with a manual by launching if you are into that sort of stuff
If fuel economy or performance is very important to you, there are plenty of cars out there with dual-clutch automatics. They get better economy AND performance than the same car with a manual.
If driving, to you, is nothing more than a way to get from A to B then you will likely prefer an automatic, right? It takes less effort. Not everyone feels the same way, though – there are some people that prefer to be more involved in their driving.
An auto-manual really doesn’t offer the best of both worlds. It offers the best of the automatic world with the “I want to shift now” part of the manual world. It lets you choose what gear you want and when, but it’s still a computer that shifts the gears – if it’s appropriate to do so (you won’t go over the redline or stall the car). What you do is say “OK computer, I want you to shift now, you decide if that’s alright.”
With a manual, it’s YOU that shifts the gears. You say “OK car, I’m going to shift now, and if you don’t like it that’s too damn bad.” You aren’t using an electronic controller like with an auto-manual, you are physically pushing the gears into place. An auto-manual does NOT offer the best of both worlds, it’s an automatic that lets you choose when to shift.
Of course, an auto-manual will still work very well for most people who don’t actually care about driving, and who want something a little more exciting than an automatic. But people who actually care about driving and want to control every part of their car will prefer a manual. A manual lets you control the clutch and the physical shifting, which no auto-manual will ever let you do.
I found a video on YouTube of a man driving an old commercial grain truck with a manual transmission. Actually, it’s TWO manual transmissions put together. Two sticks. I can’t imagine him driving an automatic – he’d probably be bored. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xAADEoJpTFQ
