Pontiac G8 GT please read!?
Can I afford this car?
I’ve never bought my own car before.
I’ve always been spoiled with new ones.
I make 28k-34k a year (sometimes I work 2 days out of the week sometimes 4 days). I make $20/hr salary 12 hour shifts. No bills. I don’t even pay for gasoline or food. (Yes spoiled I know.) I have $1000 saved up for the car and another $1000 just in savings. (Started working 2 months ago and been spending ever since lol). I have a 2004 grand prix gt2 I want to trade in. I don’t think im upside down. My parents normally pay more than they need to. Can I afford a $34,000 G8 GT ? And how much would insurance go up on a 21 year old driver with a history of speeding (most tickets removed via defensive driving). Any serious answer would be of great help! I don’t want to ask my dad to finance me if it’s a stupid idea. Thanks for reading !
First of all.. I have had two 30,000+ cars. So its not out of the ordinary. My car now is 20,000. 04 Grand Prix GT2. Its a nice looking car. As for moving out of my house. I have lived in serveral places over the past 3 years. No place is better than our big brick home. I have my own everything seperate from my parents. My own bathroom, fridge, room etc etc. Why live in a crappy apartment when work is only a minute drive.. Oh and a REAL job ? What exactly is a real job to you lol? Im a polysomnography technologist. Next month I’ll be registered and making 30/hr at age 21 I don’t think thats not a “real job”. Its not a real good paying job buts its not the worst. My older brother makes 1/3 of what I make now. I appreciate your answers but don’t understand the critizism. So would 1,600 (the lowest I make a month) cover the payment and diffrence in insurance (I dont pay ANYTHING I would only pay the car note and diffrence in car insurance (so if it goes up 200 ill pay 200 plus car note)

No!
I don’t think so. I think a new car should cost about half of what you make a year.
Soon as you have to start to pay some bills you are going to be so screwed. And the insurance is going to be huge. I think it would be a foolish purchase because of those factors alone. Wait until you’re 25 and have a real job to get a real car.
Until then, why not a used GTO?
Really, it would be fantastic if you could afford this car, because it’s a really good one. Ordinarily, you wouldn’t be able to afford it, because the G8 GT drinks more than Amy Winehouse, so you wouldn’t be able to afford the gas.
You don’t seem to have any expenses except for insurance – so although your insurance will be astronomical (can’t hide that fact), there isn’t any reason why, if you can afford both the list price and insurance for the car, you’re sweet!
But honestly, you’re asking for a bit much, don’t you think? You’re going to send your parents broke! The poor things. Do you really need something as expensive as a G8? I feel bad for your parents. And do you actually want to move out sooner or later? You might want to start saving some money, buy a less expensive and smaller car (Try something like a Mazdaspeed3, surely that’s fast enough, and it’s not that small… – by the way, you’ll save 10 grand), make your parents happier, and soon you’ll have enough for an apartment or something.
Then you’ll be totally independent, still with a fast car – girls love that. I’m assuming that you’re a hetero guy
And all this just because you made a better choice of car when you were 21. So yes, you can by the G8, it’s a great car, but you’ll have a tonne more money. I’ve made a suggestion which will save you 10 grand. Come on. It’s not every day you work out a way of saving ten thousand dollars.
Lets say you break even on your trade and you take the 0%for 60 months that offered on the G8 right now. Could you pay $605 a month not including insurance? Then figure the insurance is going to go up say double what you pay now? I would say don’t get the G8 wait till you can get one used and save some more money with your driving history the insurance company is going to hit you hard in a v8 sports car.
See what your insurance will be since you are under 25, and cannot keep your foot off the floorboard..
Is your current car paid for? Damn, they drive so well when you get the title in hand. LOL.
As far as the G8 GT “drinkiing more than Amy Winehouse”, BS!
Keep you foot out of it and you’ll get 21-24 mpg.
Now, what to do. YOU ARE 21. Do your parents a favor, get settled and situated and MOVE OUT. your parents have done their jobs and raised you to adulthood. They would probably like THEIR time now. They deserve it.
As a father of 3 sons, I will be happy when the last one moves out after college.
Mom and I are ready for “our time.”
GET IT! I just did and my insurance only went up $5 a month and i just turned 21. Sure the payments are a bit steep but i plan on refinancing in a few months
Best car I have ever owned oh and i just turned 23 not 21 lol
