On average, how much gas mileage does putting a fuel economy chip in your vehicle actually save?
I have a 2010 Ford F-150 4×4 supercrew with a 4.6 V8 engine in it. I was just wondering if it is really worth spending the money to put a fuel economy chip in it, and if so what is the best chip to get?

They don’t work. If it does anything it just leans out your A/F ratio to save gas. Of course a lean running engine is eventually going to burn a piston. The tiny amount of money you saved on gas wont come anywhere near the cost to get your engine rebuilt.
Do you really think if a cheap chip could improve your mileage or increase your power with no side effects that every car and truck on the road wouldn’t come with it already?
It totally depends on the chip. If it’s a properly mapped chip it will guarantee the saving as it reduces the BHP and sometimes the torque that the engine can deliver, not just weaken the fuel mixture.
But let’s be honest a V8 or V6 motor of more than 2.5 liters is never going to be anything but a gas guzzeler.
In Europe our fuel is much more expensive than in US and more highly taxed. In UK it’s now just under $10 a gallon. So we have had to develop specific chips for different circumstances. They cost around $400 though.
I have a 2 liter turbo diesel which will cruise on the Motorway at 85 and in mixed driving around town with an average fuel use of 50 miles per gallon, taking around 12 seconds to 60 mph.. Good eh!!
