Old Style Toyota vs. Chevy Pickup?
I am a male teen looking for my first vehicle. I’m leaning more toward a pickup. I’m trying to decide between an old Toyota pickup or an old Chevy pickup. I know that an old Chevy will burn more fuel, but how much. All the pickups I’ve seen are 454 big blocks-Bad Gas Millage. That’s my only concern. However the Toyota is only a 4 cylinder and had low power. I would much rather have the Chevy but don’t want to pay for gas. I like going offroading a lot and the ability to tow something heavy. I just don’t think a 4 c. will cut it. Any tips?? Fuel saving secrets for Chevy??? Torque increasing for Toyota??? Which would you choose??? Note: standard vs. automatic doesn’t matter to me. I’d much rather prefer 4×4 over 2×4.

the toyota will be better for gas mileage and offroading but they have really bad rust issues the frames on them are rusting really badly. any toyota pickup up to 1998 has this problem so i would say do not touch the toyota. the toyota owners are actually trying to get the company to issue a recall.
I’d get a Chevy with a 350. Very few of them came with 454′s.
You wont be towing much with a 4 cylinder truck.
get wat i have a 04 V6 tacoma 4×4 trd supercharged ull love it plus
they aint in bankrupt
Parts for the chevy are much cheaper and available than the toyota. considering you said older models, consider repairs for both. The toyota only wins in fuel economy due to smaller size and smaller motors (and before anyone gives me the thumbs-down, he said older models). I have an old GMC that’s has no trouble muddin’ or towing. Torque is better. i’ve pulled 6000-9000 pound trailers across he country and only had issues in the Sierra mountains. If you were talking newer trucks, I’d say the Ram cummings turbo diesel, The Toyota Tundra, the Chevy/GMC silverado/sierra. All are great trucks, all get terrible gas mileage. As for fuel saving secrets…… there are none. just keep it tuned up and tires properly inflated. Good luck on your choice.
Look at a Dodge Dakota with a V6. Nice sized truck and perfect for a young driver.
