ok so i have a quiz and i NEED an A so if u can tell me in a full desription for this question if u answered T?

here is the actual question couldn’t fit in the upper box- A person starts a car and begins driving on the highway. They misjudged their gas level and run out of fuel while driving. Of course, the car slows to a stop. Describe how energy is conserved in this situation.

So you’re driving on the highway with the car burning fuel to achieve combustion that generates the energy to drive the cylinders. Not knowing how to read the gas gauge, they come to a complete stop…. I don’t know if I have to assume a lot of things. Lets start from the beginning. By stepping into the car, we actually requires more usable energy to move the car. However, once we achieve enough combustion to overcome the static friction between the car and road, we can say we have generated the momentum to the car. Then all the energy is transferred to heat. A heavier car has more energy than a lighter car. A car with full tank has more energy than a car with empty tank. I don’t see how energy is conserved since more energy is required to move a empty tank car. A heavy car in the middle of the highway has the energy to cause the traffic to stop. Well so does an elephant. This type of question is dumb since everyone assumes “energy” as usable energy. If you know the Newton’s laws of thermodynamics and conservation of energy. Energy is changed to many types, either usable or unusable. Therefore, you really cannot conserve(contain) or use. In another words, if the correct answer is energy is conserved to heat(which is unusable, and a by product of combustion), it’s redundant to say energy is conserved with a full tank of gas. I guess the only time when energy is not conserved is it’s moving. There you go, I guess it’s just simple potential and kinetics. Regardless, empty tank will not move the car but you got the passengers to push it. Yeah energy is conserved by being in the car.
