Nissan Altima 3.5 V6 — Premium gasoline?
Is it true that I absolutely need to use premium gas in my V6 altima? Can I alternate between medium grade and premium grade in an effort to save $, or does it need to be premium grade all the time?

Nope!
Most newer vehicles have a knock sensor that will automatically adjust the timing in order to compensate for the different grades of gasoline. You can run on regular gasoline without any problem but you probably won’t get the mileage promised by the manufacturer. The only time you absolutely have to use premium is on a turbocharged vehicle (the Altima is Not).
To summarize:
1.Your car will automatically adjust the timing so you won’t get the knock or ping most people are talking about!
2.Both the dealer and the manufacturer will tell you to use premium because otherwise you may sue them for not getting the same gas mileage or horsepower as was advertised!
Check your owners manual. It should recommend the gasoline grade you need. Also, you can try putting regular unleaded in the tank. If the engine doesn’t ping, there is not a problem. You only need to use premium or midgrade if there is pinging or knocking coming from your engine.
Ask you dealer or look in your manual and it’ll tell you the recommended type of gas to use. I’d use the medium unlead plus, not premium
you must use premium because if you dont the car will not operate right!!! this happened to my cousin and his car broke down when he was driving down from maine to massachusetts!!!
premium gasoline ignites at a higher compression, which basically means your engine can get more power per explosion, because it is compressed at a higher rate. supposedly when you start using reg. unleaded your engine can ignite a little sooner than it should which can result in slight changes, and a loss of performance in your engine…not too big of a deal if you use regular fuel occassionally…..My motorcycle for instance runs like crap on reg fuel. cars are less noticible
yes you can alternate between the two it wont hurt anything at all with it about the only thing that will happen is you,ll save a little money once in a while,it doesn’t have to have premium fuel ran in it all the time, you may find that it runs as good on mid grade as i does on premium also, good luck hope this helps.
yea, trust me. if you use regular gas youre fuel gauge will began miss reading the amount of gas you will have and eventually, yure car will break. it happend to my cousin, she had a 95 maxima and hers broke. i have a 05 altima 3.5 v6 and my gauge started to mess up. i dont really see a differencce in performance besides my gauge reading the right amount of gas i have. but yu can alternate on fill ups though. i wouldnt recommend it, but its do-able.
