Is using natural gas “saving” energy or just changing the type of energy?

If it is, how efficient is it?
oh sorry, i mean mostly for transportation.

Just changing the source of energy because it is actually a fossil fuel as well. Natural gas is not as energy dense as gasoline.
Methane is actually renewable. When food waste decays the methane and carbon dioxide released are called syn-gas and can be refined to pure methane. Also newer landfills are being outfitted with systems that harvest the methane from decomposing waste.
As far as methane being used for transportation I know it can but am not sure about what type of vehicles run on methane or what kind of efficiencies they achieve per liter.

natural gas is just another word for basically Methane. it is a different type of energy than coal or oil which burns relatively much cleaner. however, it is currently nonrenewable. therefore, it is not “saving” energy. It is just in great supply.

Changing from what? Natural gas has been an energy staple for a long time. Once it is delivered, it is anywhere from 30 to 100% efficient depending on the application.

People need to look-up ‘fracking’ or watch the documentary “Gasland”
Natural gas is a great, clean energy source, the problem is ‘how’ they
are extracting it and the permanent environmental damage that
‘fracking’ causes.

changing the type of energy, saving energy refers to energy efficiency and different ways how to make energy use more efficient.
