is there some way to do 55 mph on the freeway without getting pulled over? wanna save gas on my car and doing?

more would waste precious gas. driving more faster would only make the engine work harder, i.e. was more gas. does anyone know?

In our state the minimum is 45.

I believe on most freeways you can get by with going 40, but you would need to stay in the right lane and have your flashers on at that low of a speed…I don’t think it’s worth it, you won’t be saving THAT much gas.

HI
Stay in the right hand lane and you should be fine.

You wont get pulled over, but you will get a lot of A – holes riding your bumper instead of passing.

The thing is you will not be saving any gas going 55 instead of 65. Just get it up to 65 and use cruise control…coasting at 65 will waste as much gas as coasting at 55. accelerating hard from a dead stop, idling for a long time, stop and go city driving, always having your foot to the floor…that kind of driving will waste gas. but if you keep it steady at 65 you will not waste any more gas than doing 55.

I have had no problem. I drive an older 5 speed pathfinder and to do the 55 the engine is already up (rpms) to do 65 it is even more so. It is just the gearing is off for high way speeds. I can easily do 80/85 in it without a problem, but you will also watch the gas gauge just drop. At 65 it is only noticeable over longer distances. I average probably about $10 (just around 4 gallons here, probably 3.5) for a two hour highway trip. If i push it to do the speed limit or what ever one else is doing it is easily $15.
And yes I keep the speed exactly the same the whole trip. It is very easy to do with a manual transmission. I do actually vary the speed less then the cruise control on another car we have.
Sorry, I did that to show that the 10 mph speed difference can make a difference depending on the car.
As far as 55 on a highway, just stay in the right lane, and you should be fine, its not that much slower really.

most states have minimum speed limit around 40-45mph. Please do everyone else a favor though and keep to the right.

Driving faster creates more wind resistance, so driving 55 will save gas, despite what people say.

bandit_60 @ 6:36 am #

sure there is ! just set the cruise control at 55. the cruis and overdrive will help you save gas.

ahanix1989 @ 7:07 am #

Gas difference isn’t much, but even if you’re still in legal limits, you ARE creating a safety hazard, especially when every semi has to try and pass you.

Stay out of the left lanes (USA) and meet the minmum speed limit usually below 55.
