When purchasing a vehicle, consider buying the most fuel-efficient vehicle that will meet most of your needs, and rent a larger vehicle or a different kind for infrequent needs; a “hybrid” vehicle that combines a high-efficiency gasoline engine with an electric motor for greater fuel efficiency; fewer power options such as automatic transmission and especially air conditioner; 2-wheel drive if you really don’t need 4-wheel or all-wheel drive.

There are many ways to save fuel, but few ways to save on the price of fuel. If you keep your car properly maintained, tires properly inflated, and don’t drive like you’re racing to every destination then you’ll get decent mileage. There are lots of aftermarket “tricks” that you can buy and install. None of them work. I’ve seen everything from a vaned insert that you install into the intake tube to electric turbo chargers (which are just fans blowing air into your intake). None of these tricks work; don’t waste your money. Just drive smoothly and don’t go crazy with the speed and you should be fine.
theres a term called “hypermiling”. u can look for it on google to know about it in details but here are a few tips it teaches to save fuel.
1) keep the revs as low as u can.
2) when u know u have to stop in a couple of hundred feets, lift ur foot off accelerator.
3) accelerate slowly.
There is a proudly Pinoy invention that when installed on either gas or diesel fed engines can save upto 20%-30% of your regular fuel consumption.
In addition to some of the above answers, depending on where you live some gas stations offer credit cards you use for gas purchases that give you a discounted price per gallon if you use their card.
The catch to the cards is that you have to pay the card off in full every month or the added interest costs you more than the savings you’re getting on each gallon on fuel.
There are also certain “bulk” stores (Sam’s Club, Costco) that offer members-only discounted prices on fuel too. The cheapest memberships are normally around $50 per year though, so unless you shop at those stores for other things you’d normally buy anyway you’re probably not going to make up $50 per year in savings on fuel price savings alone unless you buy a lot of fuel.
Yes, some are obvious – and it’s not about saving just fuel, but rather about saving $$$:
- reduce the use of motor vehicles to the minimum
- before buying, assess realistically your motoring needs
- choose energy-efficient vehicles (mpg)
- choose cost-efficient vehicles ($ per yr) – the major cost being depreciation of new vehicles
- keep your vehicles in good overall condition
- keep your tires slightly overinflated at all times
- get rid of trunk junk
- do not fall for miracle fuel-saving solutions, premium fuel, lubricants or other products – stick to the vehicle manufacturer’s specs.
