it helps by taking some drag off the engine by switching over to a clutch fan or a electric fan.
I don’t know how much gas you will save but it will increase your horsepower a little but if you do that make sure you get a good system so you don’t have over heating problems, you probably need a dual fan system from B-Cool that will mount to your radiator, it will cost a few pennies to do the conversion as a good system isn’t cheap.
it’s probable that your engine already has a “visous drive” fan. this is a pretty good system anyway ( if there is a lump of metal in the middle of the fan and the blades can be rotated when the engine has stopped it has a viscous fan )
an electric fan works by having a thermostat in the radiator and only turning on when the air flow is too low.
You see, as you drive along theres plenty of cooling without a fan.. so the fan is just dragging power from the engine for no reason
Also, when you’re at the lights on a hot day, the electric fan can spin faster then an ordinary fan so it’s great if your car heats up in traffic when you put the airconditioner on. All modern cars use an electric fan.
Obviously if you live in a cold place, you hardly ever need a fan anyway
