Is it true that you actually save gas if you have your car on cruise control?
It seems like my gas actually depletes even faster using cruise control…not sure if it’s a myth or not. But it makes sense in that you’re traveling w/ a consistent speed and the engine in general is not fluctuating as much.

no it helps ifyou use cruise. but you have to be same all the time. that is helping. you can use standard transmission it also helps.
don’t set the cruise control at such a high speed.
yes it does save gas, and as you said it is because driving yourself you tend to speed up and down a bit causing the engine to fluctuate some, but cruise control keeps it steady
now if you are using cruise control to go like 35 then not only is that silly, but you will not save gas i dont know why just that that is what my husband says
If you use your foot to provide gas to the engine, you pump gas in that is not used most efficiently when you press the accelerator pedal. I rented a Corolla which is supposed to get 35 mpg highway and got about 40 mpg over several hundred miles using the cruise.
The terrain also figures in. If it’s generally flat then cruise is the best way to go. But if you’re driving in hilly or rolling country the cruise will be constantly running the engine up and down trying to maintain the speed as the terrain changes. Gentle grades on the interstate are usually OK but extremes just don’t work.
