Is It True That Many Companies In The Usa Might Go To A 4-day Workweek To Save Gasoline And Commuting Travel?

I think USA should have one day no work all over the country and no driving, no spending money anywhere and this should change things for the better I think

Based solely on the fact that most companies try to suck every bit of work out of their employees possible, I doubt that any of them would switch to a four day work week.
There’s also the fact that they don’t care how much gas is being used by their employees. The shipment trucks (which are pretty much the only reason that higher gas prices effect large companies) would need to do the same routes anyway, so it wouldn’t save them anything.. in fact it would slow them down even more and hurt their profits.
They also don’t give a damn how long you have to commute, sorry. If it doesn’t effect their pocketbooks, large companies don’t have a reason to give a damn about their employees troubles. Especially in this recession, where everyone is losing their job and they could find an employee that doesn’t complain about such things a lot easier than they would if we were not in a recession.

It will need to be pushed by either the employees or by local, state or even Federal government.
The way government will push it is to offer tax breaks if the company implements a 4 day week…..Employees will push it if there is no money for fuel and they can not get in…it has happened to me once or twice.
It is a hard thing to push. I work in IT and could work from home, but that is looked down upon for some reason…….I could put in 5 days and NEVER drive.
The lower paying jobs like customer service may not work out so well as bodies need to be present to answer the phones…….It is possible to give laptops to employees and with new technology have calls forwarded to the employees home…………However, with lower paying jobs, it is more likely to have someone who live much more locally in that position.
Warehouse worker can not participate due to the type of job.
Technology is there to make it happen….it just needs buy in from management.

The idea of a 4 day workweek goes back to the 1950s probably earlier.it’s a great idea but with some drawbacks. I remember how bad it was when most every thing was closed on Sunday and closed early on Saturday.Hard to get anything done on a weekend. Besides what are you going to do with the extra day? Go for a drive?

i wished steelcase do that!!! but we run 3 shifts 5-6 days a week! i sure do wanna work 12 hrs 4 days 48 hrs a week then iam happy man!! thats a $1040 a week but ohh well i’ll stick with my 48-55 hrs a week you see i would make more by working 4 days and 3 day off weekend i would love that life!!!!!!! cause i make more per day then working less per day and work more days per week!!! i don’t care about gas prices i only live 3 miles from work!

they should and make it wednesday so no one will get a 3 day weekend and take a long trip to defeat the purpose…but good luck getting the post office to do that…6 day a week delivery!!! What a dinasour!!!!!!!
