Is it true that if you remove the tailgate from your truck you will get better gas mileage?
If you can answer this and any other gas saving tips would be appreciated.

you can just open it, I don’t think you would have to remove it altogether.
NO. on the discovery channel the “mythbusters” tested this theory. Turns out it’s worse with the tailgate down.
Seems the aerodynamics with the gate on and up causes the air to foil up and over the cab creating a low pressure and actually helping it move forward.
no it will make your gas mileage worse check ford motor company site or myth busters
the tail gate hold a cushion air the lets the wind slide off easier no tail gate cause the wind to hit the truck bed in stead slide over it
no because what’s the differnce if you have it open or colsed or even taken off. only thing it’s doing is removing access weight.
Yes Mythbusters proved that tailgate down actually wastes gas.
Here’s more proof from the University of Michigan!

Keep the revs below 2,000 when accelerating away, you will accelerate slower, but use LOTS less gas, also back off on the throttle or kill the Cruise control earlier when approaching lights junction etc, why use gas to get to somewhere you KNOW you have to stop or slow down. Don’t use the air conditioner unless you have too, it sucks up about 3 hp from the engine to drive it, that costs gas.
You may even find changing a route if possible, you use less gas driving a constant 50mph than you do changing speed (and gears) on a 40 mph route. Vehicles use less gas when traveling at a constant speed.
That is not true. Most trucks are aerodynamically designed to be more fuel efficient with the tail gate up because the air will circulate and make the air that you pass just continue up and over your truck. With the tailgate down or removed, the air will hit the bed of your truck and will cause more drag and a little worse fuel mileage.
Proved false.
Drive and accelerate slower, Tires at proper psi, Clean air filter, regular tune-ups, regular lubrication(including wheel bearings), Tailgate UP, Less ac, Anything that reduces drag or friction helps.
