Is it true that if you put your car in neutral at a red light, you save on gas?
Is that true? If so, how much gas do you save?

Hmmmm.. good question. Dont think it really matters though because youre engine is still running as it will be in drive.
sorry to say but no
It really doesn’t make any difference.
It depends on the car you are driving. Some cars will idle lower when they are put in neutral which will save gas but not enough to notice anything significant.
its not going to be alot only a very small amount
No you will not save gas / money.
Reasons:
1. When your car is not moving, but in drive, the idle speed is less than that if your car is in neutral. You can confirm this by sitting in your car, once you engage the transmission the RPMs will decrease from around 2000rpm to 1.5rpm.
2. By putting the car back and forth from neutral to drive you will add unnecessary strain on the clutch, transmission, and may have dangers including being rear ended if you forget to put your car in drive.
3. You’d be better off putting your car into neutral *BEFORE* stopping. This way you’ll be able to coast longer up to the stoplight/sign without any of the engine braking associated with taking your foot off the gas. But even this I fear will not save you much on gas. (Talking tea spoons / tank).
If you are really looking to save on gas, I would suggest checking your air-filter regularly, tire pressure on a monthly basis, and taking time to accelerate up to speed. You should see a 1-2mpg improvement if you follow these simple steps.

No, because while you are still in park when the light turns green, everyone will start honking their horns at you because you forgot to put your car in drive before you stepped on the gas as your car slowly rolls backwards and you cause an accident.
God does no one use gears on here? “Drive” “park” hahaha
Leave it in drive if it is an automatic. The increase in wear on the drivetrain will outweigh the nonexistent savings of being in neutral. All it will do is cycle the internals of the tranny more often; causing it to wear out sooner.
If it is a manual tranny, then put it in neutral at a light. While there is no fuel savings, you are reducing the stress on the throwout bearing for the clutch, so you are extending the life.
So, auto stays in drive… Manual goes in neutral.
I’m pretty sure that it is true. But the amount you save is prolly not worth the effort it takes to switch gears.
I would say yeah- Not for a car with manual transmition though-
You can tell by if you car idles higher when it in drive?
If so and it idles lower in Neutral then it would use less gas- Probably doesnt save much gas unless your in long stop and go traffic
absolutely
about a half a litter in a full tank
in your service
No, it is not true, but if you are one of those lights that are really long and quite a few cars in front of you and it just turned red, shutting off your car can save you gas, not sure really how much it will say in the long run though…Just taking care of your engine, changing oil and oil filter, fuel filter, basic tune up, air pressure in your tires things like that helps more than anything else!
