Pull off 6 spark plug wires. Just kidding. There were some v-8′s (in cadillacs) that were factory made to switch to run on 4 cylinders at highway cruising speed. Didn’t work out very well. V-8 can’t run on 2 cylinders. Well, if you did pull off 6 plug wires it might actually keep running somewhat but would not be usable.
No. You might save gas if you installed an efficient 2 – 4 cylinder as an experiment. It’s not practical for the street though. Think horsepower to weight ratio. You’re better off with a 4 cyl. Jetta than a heavier car with a v-8 running on 2 cylinders.

no, if you were to disable those cylinders, the engine probably won’t run, or it would run extremely rough. if it actually ran, the ECU would over compensate by dumping extra gas into the cylinders.
