Is it more fuel efficient to drive with Overdrive turned off in city traffic?
I have a vehicle that defaults to Overdrive turned ON, but I would like to know if turning Overdrive off will save me gasoline when driving to and from work in a cityscape.

Yes.It’s easier on the tranny too.
yes .. over drive is most effective at speeds of 60 miles per hour and higher.
No. Your transmission wont go into overdrive in city driving.
I will shift my Hyundai Elantra into 3rd gear around town. Computer shifts the transmission into high gear as quick as possible. Around 45 mph, the engine is only ticking over at 1400 rpms. Car feels real doggy. Quick shift of the transmission into 3rd raises the rpms to around 2,100. Car feels more responsive without a lot of throttle. Is it more fuel efficient, I don’t know. I would say yes. If car was equipped with a 5 speed manual transmission, I would only shift into 5th at speeds greater than 55 mph.
One way to find out is to drive with the overdrive turned off. Can’t hurt to try.
Good Luck
