Definately buy.

Diesels are more fuel efficient, and typicaly last longer if cared for.

120 KmPH is only about 74, and yeah, a diesel engined vehicle can run 70 just fine, especially with the technology in the newer engines. I think buying a vehicle with a diesel engine will be a good investment.

While diesel engines do, generally, get better fuel economy than gas engines, it’s just not that much better. Since the cost of diesel fuel is usually higher than the cost of unleaded, any fuel economy savings are going to be offset by the higher cost of fuel.

Also, the initial cost of a diesel engine vehicle is more than that of an equivalent gas engine vehicle. It costs more to make a diesel engine. Along with that, you have to remember that the cost of maintenance parts is higher with a diesel engine. Even a simple oil filter costs more.

What diesels DO have is a higher life expectancy and greater low-end torque than a gas engine. It’s not unusual for diesels to go 200,000 – 300,000 miles without the need of overhaul and rebuilding.

My advice: if you’re getting a car, stick with a gas engine. Costs are lower. If you’re getting a truck, and you’re going to be regularly pulling large, or heavy, loads, get a diesel.
