In the freeway do you save more gas with your windows down or your AC on?

Also, I drive an automatic and sometimes when I have to stop for a long period of time I leave the clutch on Neutral. Does it make any difference?

Almost no significant difference. I saw them disprove that theory on Mythbusters. Windows down is as good as AC, and vice-versa.

makes no difference,if the windows are down you have the force of the wind to deal with,Its been tried and there is really not that much of a difference

I am not sure if you are familiar with a show on the Discovery Channel called “MythBusters”, but they put this question to the test (Season 2 Episode 22, Season 3 Episode 38). The results came back as partially true and partially false depending on certain cicumstances mainly speed and the point where drag kicks in. According to their tests, going less than 50 mph the windows was more efficient, and going faster than 50mph the AC was more efficient

if your airconditioner works leave the windows up

everyone who takes myth buster as a real and authentic is a moron, they do prove many things but there are many holes in theory’s they tend to leave many factors out and they dont retry there experiment or have controls. anyway as far you re question is concern it is true that u save gas when u put you re windows up. when they designed the car they but them in wind tunnels with the windows up this is especially true with sports car over others.

From what I understand, using your air on freeways saves gas and open windows in slow traffic saves gas. Now keep in mind that ways to save gas are ways to save gas over time. You may not be able to measure it on one tank of gas, but over time you do save gas. I think my source was from Buick but I can’t locate right now. There was a list of things to help you save gas here and there.
