if you make only right turns it saves gas, but wouldnt it work the same with left turns?

my friend and i were talking about it and he says it only works with right turns, but if you were in England and you drove on the left side it would have to be the same amount of gas saved, wouldnt it?

it dont make no sense what so ever..vehicle turns doesnt affect the gas usage of any vehicle.

You’re not in England.
The principle is that by making right turns only, you’re not waiting for oncoming traffic to clear before you can turn. UPS uses this routine on their routes in the US.

It would save me gas, just because I wouldn’t want to go around in circles and just stay home.

The simple answer to your question is yes. I understand the premise, and it is technically correct, as long as it gets you where you are going, without going out of the way. It will work with right turns in the United States, and with left turns in the United Kingdom.

In England yes. Left turns in America usually require slowing and more length of laps. Staying in the inside lane of a 4 lane road requires crossing 2 lanes at every turn equaling approx. 24 “X 4 turns= 96 ” per lapfurther than right turns to the outside lanes.

^^^^^^absolutely and UPS saves thousands by doing so.

For a company the size of UPS to be saving mere thousands just by turning right highlights just how little gas this saves.

Of course, it only works if by always turning right you aren’t adding lots of extra miles to your journey. The theory at least seems to be relatively sound, but I’d argue that in practice the savings aren’t worth the effort. There are heaps of other ways that you can save gas that REALLY work without going round and round in a right-handed circle.

Be smooth on the gas pedal.
Don’t race off between the lights.
Don’t come to a complete stop if you can avoid it.
Only run the car systems that you really need (lights, A/C, etc).
Keep the windows rolled up.
Don’t carry excess weight.
