If you get a honda with a Vtec engine, do you have to buy premium gas?

I am looking into buying a civic or prelude and have heard from some people that the Vtec requires premium gas, which would defeat the purpose of trying to save gas money for me. so i need to know if the Vtec requires premium gas or not. Thanks

Not true.

It really depends on the vehicle. If you were to post which year and vehicle the Vtec would be in it would be more of a help.

It is recommended but not necessary. Vtec engines run under pretty high compression so the higher grade fuel will burn more thoroughly than a lower grade. In my opinion it would take a long time to see negative effects of running a lower grade fuel.

If you’ve got automatic timing advance then you don’t need to put premium gas in it, as the car will sense any knocking or pinging & advance or retard the timing automatically.

Save yourself the $, buy the car you want & just put in the cheapest gas. It will be happy and so will you!
