If am going to leave warm house for an hour on a cold day and want to save fuel costs, what should I do?

What should I do with my thermostat setting to give me the best savings?

Turn it off altogether
Turn it up
Turn it down, but not off
Don’t Change it- keep it at the desired room setting while im away

Please help thanks!

You’ll actually burn more oil by changing the heat constantly. The furnace works harder when it has to heat up a cold room versus maintaining a warm temperature.

I would keep it at the desired temperature, unless you’re leaving for more than 48 hours or so.

Turn it down but not off, I used to turn mine off when i went to sleep and went out but than i would get home and it would have to run for an hour just to get the temp back up to 68ish. By the time it got to where i wanted it i would either be leaving again or going to bed. The energy it used to run for so long was more than what it would be doing if i just kept it on it seems.

Make sure your windows and doors are sealed as well. i think that was one of my major problems.

Plus an hour isn’t that long. If you have a nice place with good windows and doors the temp shouldn’t be changing that much.
