Comments on I saw an answer to a question on here that rolling your windows up can save gas, is this true?
No. It’s not true. But not using your AC helps!
well if that implies that rolling up the windows means you don’t have to turn on the a/c (which consumes gas) then it is true
yes it is true… thats in the long run…when your windows are down it acts like a parachute…just like the tailgate of a truck…same principle…leave it down on a truck for better gas mileage… and roll up your windows for the same..
Avoid using A/C on short trips. For in-town driving, roll down the windows and use vents to save gas. For highway driving, it is more efficient to use the A/C based on the vehicle aerodynamics with the windows up.
Take advantage of cruise control on highways to maintain a consistent speed and, in most cases, save gas.
Avoid excessive idling. Cars with larger engines typically waste more gas.
Avoid revving a cold engine to warm it up.
Avoid topping off the gas tank. In warm weather, fuel can expand, causing an overflow.
Keep track of your mileage on a monthly basis.

I saw a special on the news about tips to save gas and that was one of them. During high speeds, like interstate driving, having the windows down creates drag on the car and having them down at slow speeds is more fuel effecient than using the AC. So, yes, it is true, according the expert on the 10:00 news.
Yes, but the AC has to be off and the savings in fuel mileage is nominal. You may as well be cool.
Yes it is true, Basically your vehicle is aerodynamic, it has been designed that way.By opening the windows you are dragging air and making the car heavier thus increasing engine speed to keep up your road speed. Unless you are driving something significantly quick i wouldnt worry about it thought as the effect on your mpg is going to be marginal
It has actually been confirmed that no matter what you do as far as A/C or windows open or closed, the MPG has little if any change.
its true, because when you got your windows down, you have back draft, cause the wind will go through your windows and slow down your car.
