I have been trying to start my toyota for the past few days, I have spark the timing is set could it be?

I have no fuel? I have been consulting my Chilton’s book and it says no fuel, check fuel pump. How do you check a fuel pump? I have an older car with a carburetor, it has the fuel pump that attaches to the head. I don’t believe it has a fuel pump relay. So do I just replace the pump? My car is a toyota tercel 3AC motor and when she’s running she purrs and saves me gobs on gasoline. I need some help here. Thanks in advance!

Start with replacing the fuel filter. You’ll be able to tell if your carb is getting fuel by pumping the throttle, if you see vapors in the throat it’s getting fuel.

Spray a bit of starting fluid down the carb after holding the choke plate open. If it runs you know it’s a fuel problem. Mechanical fuel pumps can leak gas into the oil so if you do have a bad fuel pump I’d change the oil and filter right away to protect the bearings in the motor.
If the motor tries to start you should also make sure the choke is closed when the motor is cold. With the motor off, open the choke and watch for gas from the accelerator pump jet while some one pumps the gas pedal. You may need a carb overhaul.
Pull a spark plug and make sure it’s not wet and flooded.

see the fuel pipe where it goes into the carb… just pop it off, and put it in a glass jar… crank it… you can see the fuel instantly… just coz the sender says theres gas in the tank, ignore it, they can fail..and its empty and showing half a tank…

i don tknow whether its electric or cam driven pump on them, but, lift pumps fail… but as its a carb, not injection, then ANY electric fuel pump will do…ive fitted many fords with british leyland mini fuel pumps… two wires, not a lot to go wrong, and they cost around 12 quid… and yes, you can still buy them off the shelf… or go look in a scrapyard…

BUT… and its a big but… have you checked the points/condenser/dizzy cap, air filter, and spark plugs… any one of them could be causing this… its a process of elimination…

AND… even a dodgy contact on the ignition barrel could cause this…
