i have a toyota corolla 03 & 4runner 05?
i would like to conserve a little more gas by putting the car on neutral & idle whenever i go downhill instead of still putting it on drive. that way, there’s little less gas used & lesser stress on the brakes.
my question is, is it also good for the transmission to drive that way? Will it affect the transmission adversely?

If it’s an automatic trans. the no, and not recommended for stick either.
manuals are fine to coast. the transmissions are physically separated when in neutral.
auto transmissions are different. not good idea. they are still connected via a torque converter (yours are anyway). pressure builds inside the transmission up with no place to go.
not gonna make that much difference since they both have a fuel cut off valves that do that for you.
cheers!
