I have a daily driver 05 diesel f250 and want to save fuel from idling?

Should I warm it up every time with my high idle until transmission temp and water temp have reached a good operating temp? I want to save fuel so I hate to idle so much to warm up but I want what is best for my truck in all regards.

No, drive it slowly until water and transmission temperature are up to normal. High idle not only wastes fuel, but it is also noisy, and pollutes. Also, the oil doesn’t really circulate at idle either. Yes, I know diesels run best and are the most efficient when warm, but it’s summer, and it will get up to operating temperature in no time.

No warm up is needed; that’s a myth.

Idling beyond 3 mins is violation in many states and $250 is a typical fine.

You don’t need to warm it up. Just don’t stomp on it for the first few miles. Idling that much is causing much more wear and tear than just driving off as soon as you start.
