Most of the time they are in the rear close to the gas tank. You will see a cylinder shaped object with a fuel line running from one end, and out the other.

well most of the time on a ford it is located on the driver side of the vehicle look under it and look for a cylinder shaped (kinda looks like a coke can) with 2 fuel lines (one behind it and one in front of it) to disconnect it just pop out the plastic connectors and unscrew the bracket that is holding it up (be careful because it has gasoline in it!!). its basically a do it yourself project that takes no more than 15 to 20 mins but when you install the new one make sure u face it in the right position (dont forget!) and as soon as its installed dont turn it on right away. turn the key forward like if youre going to turn it on. dont crank it, do this 3 more times then crank it. now youre good to go just make sure u secure the lines and the filter bracket and youre done! easy isnt it??? if you cant find it where i said it could be look around the fuel tank and you should find it.

For the Ford V229 Program (Ford Freestar/Mercury Monterry) there should also be a fuel line locking mechanism. This requires a special tool, that can be picked up for about $5-$15 at any run of the mill auto parts store. This tool will let you be able to remove the line from the filter.

Don’t try to pry it off with a prybar or screwdriver. If you do, you may bend the connector, and make it even more difficult to remove the fuel filter.
