Hypermilling?

as nice and fuel efficient as it seems, is it safe to inflate your tires that much? will they wear down faster, or be more prone to blowing out? i’m curious…http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/hypermiling_d…

Always inflate your tires to the automobile manufacturer’s specifications. There will be no perfromance gain and you could cost yourself money in repairs.
Remember, your tires are the first (and most important) part of your suspension, steering, and braking systems. If you alter the tires inflation from the manufacturer’s specs, you will experience a rougher ride, longer stopping distances and decreases steering control. The “max” pressure on the tire is just that, the most the tire can safely handle without suffering a failure. Just like standing on the highest “safe” step on a ladder, you can do it but it’s better to be a little lower.
Otherwise, driving the speed limit, unloading your vehicle, not accelerating or stopping hard, etc. are all sound ways of saving gas.

please don’t do what the article says, just maintain your vehicle and don’t do any unnecessary driving should help on gas mileage shouldn’t over inflate your tires could have a blow out and could have a serious accident just to save a few bucks on gas,try to conserve in some other manner.your life is worth more than the price of gas…

It’s best not to go too far over manufacturers recommendations. The best tires to use are the narrowest and largest diameter that your car will accomodate, inflated to recommended, or slightly over, manufacturers specs.

Yeah, Don’t over inflate your tires.
Make sure they are properly inflated though. You prolly won’t blow up your tires but they will wear ALOT faster.
