Hypermiling Question?
My aunt is into hypermiling to save gas. She drives a car with an automatic transmissions. She will put the car into neutral while going down hill so she can coast. Is this bad for the transmission? I mean switching it like that while moving?

I have also been hypermiling with some great results. It is not preferable for an automatic to switch to neutral while moving. The reason for this is when you “slam” your car back into gear your RPM will jump immediately, and since it’s an automatic it will start out in first gear and rapidly jump to an appropriate gear for your speed. This will cause stress and wear on your clutch/transmission.
With a standard in neutral I can judge the gear I should be in and rev my RPM to a safe level before putting it in gear, and be much safer..
i heard its bad but all honestly im trying it out the hypermileage stuff but i just cost with out taking it out of drive.
I think that can be very dangerous.
