Hypermiling Pulse and Glide without shifting into neutral?

I have an 06 Honda Civic and I was wondering if it’s possible for me to do the P&G technique with an auto transmission without shifting into neutral. I heard it is bad to shift into neutral too often with an auto tranny. Is it worth it to P&G while keeping the car in drive when coasting? Thanks
