Do the math if a jetta diesel can go 45 miles on one gallon of diesel and a “normal” gas powered car gets 35 even with diesel being a dollar more per gallon your still ahead financially.Diesels are not “hybrids” there is no such thing.A hybrid runs on a combination of gas_electric power.

Mercedes is coming out with an S300 Bluetec diesel hybrid in 2009. It will run on a combination of diesel and electric: http://www.soultek.com/clean_energy/hybrid_cars/hybrid_car_types/mercedes_E300_hybrid_vehicle.htm

The Bluetec Hybrid will get around 46mpg. A normal diesel E300 Turbo Diesel 177 can get around 30mpg.

So you are looking at a 50% improvement in fuel economy for the Bluetec Diesel Hybrid over the normal Turbo Diesel.
