How long do motorcycle tires last?

10

I’m thinking about buying a Ninja 250R to save money on fuel costs. I currently drive about 140 miles five days a week. I’m not going to be taking off like a madman nor will I be doing any burnouts. With that being said how long can I expect my tires to last.

Thanks,

Casey

well my motorcycle tires lasted about 3 years

Depends on the tire, but on a relatively low-horsepower application like the 250R, I think you could probably count on 8-12,000 miles out of a set.

I get 10K out of my tire.

If you keep off the throttle and the brakes excessively, normal wear on motorcycle tires will vary to some degree by brand and how much you spent on them, assuming you are buying quality and not neccessarily name, of course. The manufacturer of most tires will give you a reccomended mileage for your tires, but I always go by tread wear, but economically speaking, it’s going to be cheaper to buy new tires for a bike every 3 months than it is to put gas in a car for the same period. But you should get a good year or more from a set of tires used responsibly.

once a year of 5000 miles, whatever comes first
I am picky about my tires, I never ride with the tread lower than legal
I have purchaced 100′s of motorcycle tires thru the years and thru my mistakes and errors I have found out the the “Pirelli” brand are the best.

I get around 12,000 miles on a set but it depends on how you ride

With a small light non so powerfull bike like the Ninja 250, you can get 15K + if you get touring oriented tires. They are not as sticky, but last more than twice as long as race / sport tires. The 250 is a great bike for economy, so long as you learn to change the oil yourself. Have fun!

I usually get 12K miles.
Looks like my current front tire is wearing out right on schedule, but my rear tire is still good to go — might last 16K miles.

I am willing to bet that the ninja 250 will get over 10,000 miles out of a set of tire, maybe even up to 15k+. My set of tires seem to last at most 5000 miles and that is without any burnouts but I ride cbr’s and sport tires really do not last so long. I like Micheline Powers the best for their cornering grip and the fact that they do not tend to blister, I had bad luck with a set of Qualifiers last summer and would not recommend them to anyone. It seems that you get exactly what you pay for with motorcycle tires.

5,000 miles for Qunigdao or Cheng Shin tires if you’re lucky and can live with squirrely handling.

20,000+ miles for Avon or Dunlops.
