How Can You Conserve Your Vehicle’s Gas?
Everyone knows that gas prices are high at the moment and I was wondering what are some things you can do to conserve your vehicle’s gas, so you can make less trips to the gas station.

I have slowed from 75mph to 60mph or so on the freeway, my fuel mileage increased by about 10%. Slower speeds save fuel, to a point. At 35mph, slowing to 30 wont do much. High speeds use a lot of energy to push the air around the car.
Accelerating hard is a waste of fuel but nothing like braking. At least when you are accelerating, you are doing something useful; getting the car up to speed. When you step on the brakes, you are converting energy (the motion of the vehicle) into heat (touch your front brake rotors after a couple of quick stops if you don’t believe me). If you know you have to stop ahead, take your foot off the gas and coast, using your brakes normally at the end instead of continuing at full speed and having to brake harder to stop.
Check your tire pressure, low pressure eats gas because the tires flex more as they roll. There should be a decal inside the drivers door-frame indicating the proper pressure. Be aware that if you have an older vehicle but newer tires with a higher max press rating, you may want to run it higher than the decal says to make the tire wear evenly. You could go a little higher on the pressure to save a little gas but doing so risks wearing the tire more quickly, an expensive trade-off.
Ride with a friend or coworker one week and let them ride with you the next. The more that ride together the less you drive your own car.Try to make a list of things you need during the week and pick it all up at one time to reduce as many short trips as possible.Do not hot rod and pick the best rout with the fewest stops.
Drive like a Prius owner, seriously. Don’t accelerate quickly from a stop, etc. Keep the RPMS low. People behind you may get mad at you though. If it isn’t a long distance you can always pull out your bicycle or walk.
Make sure your car is properly maintained and consolidate all your trips. Just try to get as much done in one outing. Really not a whole lot more you can do.
Accelerate slower, let off the gas earlier before a stop, don’t drive over 55. Do a search on “hypermiling” for more tips.
