How can I save gas in my Jeep Wrangler?

9

I bought my dream car – Jeep Wrangler – but it’s automatic. (Has no AC and it was cheaper than the standards on the lot.) I just happened to buy it the weekend gas prices skyrocketed to over $3.00 back in the spring. I love it, but it’s breaking me financially. Does anyone have any tips on how I can save $$$ driving this beast so I don’t have to give it up??

getting regular oil changes help the gas to be used slower,
driving at a constant speed when going long distances (if you have cruise control, that’s great), driving with the windows up (even a little crack in the window can pull the car back, causing more gas to be used)
good luck

a few things you can do change your fuel filter regularly as well as the air cleaner or better yet change it to a k & n air cleaner this will increase hp and mpg also there is a product out called tronado it is installed in the air intake hose it is like a small fan blade that spins the air this mixes your fuel to air ratio for better proformace thus mpg

Fill up the tank and don’t drive it.

Use another car.

Then, the gas will be saved.

Now for the real answer:

Drive it as little as possible. Use it when you have to.

Life is full of sacrifices.

Regular servicing should do a lot for your fuel economy.

I’ve found that if you drive with the windows down you should always keep the back window rolled up/taken out.. it doesn’t drag as much then. Also don’t get any tires with aggressive tread (Mud Terrains, Swampers, or anything like that), they look cool, but kill your MPG. Other than that, just keep it well maintained, don’t drive excessively fast, and whatever you do.. don’t buy a “gas saving” computer chip.. it won’t help you save gas at all.

There are a lot of things that will help. The one i recommend is a cold air intake. Not only will you get better mpg you will also have more power.

First, thing to do is ignore anyone recommending any of those ‘gas saver’ devices…. The only thing they do is lighten your wallet….

First, make sure your vehicle is top mechanical shape…
This can make a bigger difference than anything else.

Studies are contradicatory about whether windows down or A/C on uses more fuel. You are going to have to try for yourself. But having a Wrangler, you can remove the top and reduce drag, which will help the situation.

Reduce the amount of weight you are carrying around. As little as an extra 100 lbs. of junk can cause a noticeable reduction in fuel economy.

Pay close attention to your driving style. This is probably the single biggest factor in fuel economy. Rapid starts and stops, excessive speeds and general poor driving habits by far waste more fuel than any other factor. Studies show that 45mph is actually the point where most cars reach their highest fuel efficency.(not suprisingly its the speed used when a car manufacturer tests vehicles for highway economy)
Leaving a few minutes early and driving even a few MPH slower can make a huge difference in your fuel bill.

Make sure your tires are inflated to the correct pressure. A narrow tire inflated to the correct pressure causes less drag, and therefore higher fuel economy than a wide tire that isn’t inflated to the correct pressure.

Get rid of it. Gasoline will never be cheap again.

It’s cars like yours that are part of the problem with gas prices now anyways. BIG ASSED U VEES use more fuel and drive demand up, thus driving prices up.

If you are concerned about fuel economy, a Jeep isn’t for you. No matter what you do, you are still trying to push a box on wheels. There is nothing aerodynamic about a Wrangler. If you want one that is more economical, try trading yours for the 4 cylinder model. It has terrible power and isn’t much off-road, but it is better on gas.

P.S. I own a few Jeeps and none of them are good on gas. That is why I also have a 4 cylinder car.
