get a smaller engine

the easiest way is to trade it in for a honda civic.

Release the handbrake and slip her into neutral down hill.

A thorough tune up if one has not been done in a while. You might find the expense of buying a smaller vehicle will pay for itself in a very short time as 454 is one very big and thirsty engine and will guzzle no matter what you do.

just keep it tuned up to the max about the only thing i know and keep the right amount of air in the tires. what size tires you have? if you have big tires then put the original tires back on.

K&N air filter
switch to synthetic oils in your engine, transmission, transfer case (4×4) and differentials. we use Royal purple with great results;
fuel additive like startron to keep gas fresh, cleans fuel system, increases MPG
reduce weight (not you, your truck) remove unnecessary tools, and other stuff you may just be carrying around.
add a tonneau cover or cap over the truck bed for better aerodynamics.
get wheels aligned
keep tires properly inflated
drive at or below the speed limits
avoid stop & go traffic
plan your trips to avoid rush hour traffic.
combine trips
no jackrabbit starts.

hope this helps

add a cold air intake
newer or bigger exhaust
(if its fuel injected) a throttle body spacer
and computer programmer (this can be high dollar so you might be better off finding a shop that can do it for the fraction of what it would cost you to buy your own)
