Have Stopped Speeding Due To Gas Prices?

9

I have cut my driving in general down quite a bit, but I’ve also noticed that I rarely speed anymore in an effort to conserve gas. I now routinely drive city streets at 35 mph instead of my usual 40. Some people get ticked and drive around me, but I don’t care. They don’t pay my bills and the limit is around 35-40 anyway.

We have cut back on everything. Our summer trips are not going to happen and our spending is only for neccessary things. We have money but we are not falling for this crap like many will. It’s like feeding an addict that is never satisfied. Our Travel Trailer will become a rental for a single person now and the wheels will come off.

speeding really doesnt make much of a diffreent unless you are going 60-70 mph, what is more important is that you arent speeding up and slamming on your brakes constantly, as long as you can remain coasting and slow down and accelerate when you need to without using brakes you will also conserve more gas in the long run.

I drive the speed limit in town. And I find that there are always people in more of a hurry than myself. We have a 50 KPH speed limit (35 KPH around the schools). I did experiment with lower speeds but it did not affect gas mileage.
On the highway my car hits its “‘sweet spot”‘ at around 110-115 KPH so when the opportunity presents itself that is the speed I drive at. I live in Saskatchewan and our speed limit on the Trans Canada Highway is 110 KPH and on secondary highways is 100 KPH.

I am with Mo on this. People need to start cutting back or they will keep rising. As long as people are paying the price why cut them right? I live in Maine and we had a beautiful memorial weekend and the toll booths hit record highs that weekend because so many were coming in from other states to enjoy vacationland for the weekend.

Yeah, I’ve slowed down too. I don’t drive unless I HAVE too. Already sick of being “broke”, but I’m spending less and saving more because who knows how long this will last. Can’t afford to eat decent or go anywhere….good thing I have a garden……..

It uses MUCH more fuel to brake hard, and pass people when you’re in a hurry.
*tip* Leave early instead of needing to speed to be on time and you will conserve gas.

No. I get the same mileage at any speed with my truck. I wish I wouldn’t have to use that ethanol watered down gas. My mileage drops from 21 to 17 with that crap.

scrooge @ 5:49 am #

no, I have to go twice as fast now, to see more customers, so I can make ends meet.

sofar @ 10:03 am #

No, it would be the same.
