It will evap off probably, you should only use what the manufacturer reccomends. Acetone can eat rubber and stuff so I would think this is a bad idea. And a 1/4 cup is so little I can’t see how it would help.
False – you can scorch the pistons and cylinders and pistons by adding acetone, as well as damage the catalytic converter.
heavens no! acetone eats and melts plastic. it will ruin any plastic part in your fuel system …
this has been debated on every single automotive forum since the beginning of time. The fact that there is no clear answer should tell you that any gains in mileage are dubious and questionable. Largely, this seems to be a “your results may vary” issue where half the folks say it did nothing and the other half swear they saw improvements.
In short… I don’t really believe it.
edit: Here’s the “research” i found years ago that supports it: see source.
Myth.
Do not put acetone in your gas tank. Not only will it not improve mileage it can destroy your gasketing and the rubber parts of your fuel system.
This is just one of those age-old additive myths that will not die.
3 oz per ten gallons of gasoline
will increase your mpg
no more no less per ten gallons

remember only use pure 100% acetone
never use the kind that is mixed with water or other stuff
I’ve read studies where it does but the gas aving from figure that I have seen it is not worth the hassle of the trouble. Figure what 5% better gas mileage is and what all you would have to do tobut a few ounces in your tank before you fill up. all the studies show no signs of damage to the fuel system or engine. I think I would try the water injection though myself.
