Americans are ranting and b-tching but there are a lot of advantages to these high gas prices:
1. Less traffic on the road, as Americans cut back on non-essential travel. This also means less pollution.
2. Some people are driving a lot slower to conserve gas. There are still a lot of people who speed up to get to a red light 100 feet ahead, but at least some people are easing off the gas pedal.
3. Traffic-related deaths and auto accidents have fallen dramatically, for those first two reasons given. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080722/ap_on_re_us/gas_declining_deaths
4. It’ll force Americans to get off their lazy butts and walk or use public transportation. It’ll also force them to carpool more.
Considering how recklessly many Americans drive, I’m not so sure I want to see gas prices come down. When I consider how fast people some people are driving even with these high gas prices, I’m not sure I want to see gas go back to $1.46 a gallon like it was 7 years ago.

1. Considering that you have palnned a 500 NM flight at an average groundspeed of 120 knots and have determined a fuel consumption rate of 6.5gph., how much fuel should you have on board in order to have a 45 minutes reserve upon arrival at your destination?
2. Assum all the conditions in problem #1 work out as planned. Your fuel tank hold 40 gallons usable, and you departed on thsi trip with full fule. HOw much longer could you fly after reaching your destination and wihtout cutting into the 45 minutes reserve you planned for in question 1?
3. Consider the answer you determined in question2, and assume that you goof and allow an overcast to develop underneath you that prevents you from descending VFR at your destination. A radio check with “Flight Watch” indicates that your alternate aiport, which is 80nm beyond your destination in the same direction. Can you fly to your altenate at a fuel saving groundspeed of 100 knots without running out? (fuel consumption rate is 6.5 gph)

I know that driving with windows down does but I am hearing that the a/c doesnt. I DO remember though having a car that used to get more miles in the winter per tank. 290 vs 350. I am only concerned because I got laughed at when I was running out of gas the other day and I turned off the a/c to “conserve gas” before pulling into gas station.

Does bp gasoline with invigorate really work does it clean your engine helping it stay younger for longer? or is it just a marketing campaign or should i jus go to a genric gas station and save 6 or 7 sents a gallon? Which is better for my car in the long run? And which gas station do you perfer? genric or branded? and your experience

With the (up to) 10% ethynol in our gas I went from 16.5 to 15.5 mile per gallon. I average about 15.5 gallons per fill up. With this loss (only 1 mile per gallon) at $3.00 per gallon, I lose about $2.79 or 0.93 gallons per fill up. Looking at it another way I could say I am paying $3.18 per gallon.
So is this helping us or not?

During the 1970′s the speed limit was lowered on the freeways to conserve fuel. I was wondering how much a difference it makes. Is there a good web site with charts showing a typical gasoline powered car and what mileage it gets at different speeds? Every five miles per hour up to 100 miles per hour would be awesome.
