most actaully work, but usually to such a small degree that you wouldn’t really notice, and the cost of the unit usually exceeds the savings over a period of time.
Chip tuning can add gas milage, but usually involves increasing the engines cam timing requiring the use of a more expensive, higher octane fuel.
fuel ionizers i dont know much about but, magnetizing enige fuel may result in increased flow, but does nothing for how your car burns it and the rate at which it consumes the fuel.
The air spinner i have often though of making my own, it is literally a piece of metal with some angular fins that spin the air before it enters the intake manifold. The velocity of air inside the intake can be increased by twisting it……(think about pushing a stiff coat hanger through a “s” bent pipe, pushing straight is difficult, but twisting it as you go makes it much easier). Machine shops swirl polish and rifles have “rifiling” which spins the bullet to increce velocity. So that idea cant be all bad, but again it would increase the performance not so much the fuel milage.
The best way to achive better mileage is to slow down, coast when you can, and not use the air conditioning. driving an economical car also helps too. I had an 1992 jetta that got well over 30mpg on regular 87 oct fuel. My TDI golf gets almost 50mpg combined and if I baby it i can get 55mpg.
thats my $0.02
