fuel pump on my car turns on but my car wont start,do i need to replace the filter if so is my pump still good?
I haven’t drove my 1996 Chevrolet Camaro in a while, this morning i fired it up and i noticed it was on E so i decided to go to the gas station, just as i pulled from the drive way my car shut off i tried to turn it back on but it wouldn’t so i went and filled a 2gallon container with gas and put it in my car. Then i gave it another try but this time it wouldnt turn on at all! is it possible that my fuil filter got clogged from it being on E and if so, is my Fuel pump necessarily defective already or do i have a chance of saving it by changing the filter because when i turn the key i could hear the “zzzzz” sound of the pump.

Yeas it could be because u ran all the junk compleatly down and its clogged. Another is that u burt up your pump. Also some cars have a sensor that shuts off the fuel pump when it is out of gas so it doesn’t burn up. Iin this case just disconect and reconect your battery. If you hear the fuel pump and it doesn’t stop. That means it is dry and not getting any fuel and it will burn up. Definattly change the filter first. If that isn’t the prob. It needed replacing anyway considering the age of the car.
if u hear the fuel pump typically its fine. biggest question is how old is the fuel that was already in the tank? if it was older than 6 or 7 months then it most likely went bad. if so you will definately need to replace your filter and in many cases the plugs as well. bad gas can foul plugs. if the gas was fine and fairly new then it could still be your filter…. the easiest way to check a fuel filter is to remove it, shake it and pour the fuel still inside backwards out thru the in side…. if it is black the ur filter is probably clogged. the next thing would be to blow in thru the in side and see if its restricted. it could also be bad plugs, wires, cap, rotor, or if it has coils possibly one or more of the coils. or another culprit could be a clogged fuel line.
If the fuel pump runs constantly like that it means there is not enough gas to get it primed. If you keep letting it run dry like that, the pump will self-destroy: it is cooled by the fuel.
