Ford Excursion: Need fuel saving tips.?

13

I just bought a 2000 Ford Excursion Limited. It is truly an awesome vehicle. It has the 7.3 liter Diesel, and is a 4×4. I love everything about this truck except the mileage, (yeah I know, Big Surprise). Is there anything out there that I can do to improve the mileage? Air intakes? Chips? Re-programming? Any and all ideas appreciated. Thanks!

get a programmer and use the fuel economy setting. it’s a good thing you bought the diesel rather than the gas V8, though.

banks power systems, bullydog or some edge products. change the exhaust and put a tuner or chip in it and itll get some better fuel economy. not to much. maybe 5 if that much mpg. air intake will help it breathe easier as well.

About every three miles you should get out and push it for a mile or so. Not only will you save gas but in no time you’ll be strong as a bull………..

Get a car that doesn’t have a 7.3 liter engine in it? thats too much honestly. If honda can make a 2.0 liter engine with 200 hp, I’m sure ford could make a 4.0 liter with 400hp (which would be more than enough)

I doubt there would be anything you could do to improve on the gas mileage more than factory. A chip/reprogram is going to eat MORE gas, an air intake could possibly help out a little bit by letting the engine breathe better, however I’m seriously doubting this.

I know additives work. Intakes will work also. Don’t exactly know how you drive, but also common sense will tell you not to gun the gas up hills.(i’m driving a HEMI up Cali hills)

trade it in for a more fuel efficient car.

Yeah, buy an expedition! Jk, its not like buying a gas excursion would help any either… If you can afford it all. Then heres my list.

Help your turbo open up more.
Its a turbine in front of your engine. Picture a jet engine in front?
One thing is certain. Get exhaust, 7″ or more! I’d go with more! Will let your turbo whine even louder at lower RPMs. Big improvement.

Next try new air intake, AND intake manifold. So you dont just improve and force air to the mass air flow sensor and cram it all in there….

Next try a chip for more Torque.
You dont need the High HP crap. More torque means less power it takes to get up to speed. And thats what diesel engines are for..

If you get an exhaust it has to be more then 700 bucks. Seriously…

heres a tip! you should of never bought it! lol! trade it back in and get something fuel efficient.

i’ll go ahead and say that i dont have any ideas but i’m not going to tell you that you shouldnt have gotten it. it really is a nice car, and its a bit of an ego booster being able to look down on everyone else. but another car that really would help out with gas milege would be the ZAP-X. ZAP is a company in california that makes electric cars and they have a new model out later this year, the X. its $60000 but it gets 350 miles to a charge, costs $3.50 to charge it, and charges in 10 minutes, from a standard wall outlet. its not as big as an excursion, but it is a mid-size SUV. it may not help now, but if you happen to have $60000 laying around…

Drive lightly. Don’t tow anything, haul unnecessary items, keep your tires properly inflated. No drag racing to the next light.

Take the car and drive it off a cliff. Then go buy something with better gas mileage.

whittaker76 @ 5:41 am #

if you can aford a big vehicle then you should be able to afford the gas it drinks. other wise get a small cracker box vehicle
