You do, but the most significant one of all is that if you drive a manual unit, you save on the wear and tear of the clutch plate.
When you are in neutral it is the engine alone which is running and that means less fuel consumption. If it is a long wait, even an automatic transmission will save you fuel if left in neutral but you must engage brakes. Otherwise, the car may roll forward or backwards depending on the incline.
If you really want to know next time you pull out of your garage, if you have a automatic transmssion with the car in gear stop and note the speed of the tachometer and then shift to park or neutral, note speed again. Whatever one is lower that is the one you are saving gas on. As far manual transmissions go unless you want to turn the car off at every light it must be in neutral when stopped.
no the motor is still running you save nothing …. but you do waste the time it take to put it back in gear when the light changes
