no it doesn’t dont dumb@ss DONT turn the car of either u lose steering
depends on which car you have… some cars when coasting in drive gear.. the rpm already drops close to idle… but technically yes it would save a bit of gas.. not much because the engine does not use a lot of gas to stay at the higher revolutions.. the speed of car is doing a lot of the work…
When you let off the gas, the throttle closes, even though the rpms are higher than they would be at idle, there isn’t alot of fuel being put into the chamber. so no your not really saving anything. Because the engine is a pump, i suppose there would be a slight amount of fuel savings, but like… if you did that at every single light, for a year..you might save like.. a buck fifty. and for the extra wear of shifting your transmission all those times.. probably not worth it.
You use less when the car is in drive as opposed to neutral. Here is why, coasting in drive engine is providing some braking, fuel flow to injectors is off, even though the RPM may be higher. In neutral there has to be enough fuel flow to give you engine idle. Its also unsafe coast in drive.
In addition to what everyone else is saying, coasting is illegal in most areas.
