I’d choose rolling down windows over a/c…

Rolling down the windows will create excess drag, but cranking the a/c takes power away from the transmission…besides, sometimes real outside air feels better than the artificial smell of r134a…

At speeds above 50 mph, you’ll use less gas with the windows up. Due to the air flow around the car being disrupted. =^ )

If you are rolling down the windows to avoid turning on the air conditioner, it DEFINITELY HELPS save gas. Any time the air conditioner is running, the engine has to work harder to produce the power necessary to run it & the car’s engine. While the car’s aerodynamics are hindered by the open window, it is still more efficient than running the air conditioner.

rolling your windows down does help save gas unless you are driving at a high speed

mythbusters did a study recently about this theory. having your windows down gives you better gas mileage than having the a/c on. well they drove the exact same vehicles, at the same speed and both vehicles were filled up with gas. one vehicle had the a/c turned on high and the other had the windows down. they drove at the same exact speed around a race track and the suv with the windows down went just a few feet farther. so it doesn’ make a big enough difference.

yes! of course when u turn the a/c on the engine works much harder, therefore it consumes more gas. i personally dont turn my air condition on very frequently unless the weather is way too warm and im stock in a heavy traffic where there is no breeze. it is good to have the ac on in poluted air as well because then it helps u to get away from taking in the somke and dust and every thing. other than the conditions i mentioned i dont see it necesarry to turn on the A/c.
remember that it is recomanded to turn off ur ac when ur going up a slope or when ur driving with high speed.
>> to turn the A/c off/on u should be in a compelete/ rolling stop<<

My car desn’t and like these other people that say the engine works harder. I knowmine DOESN’T since my car has a tach and RPM’s DON’T change either way.

Rolling down your windows causes more drag on your vehicle and thus you would use more fuel.
Rolling down the rear passenger side window about an inch and then turning the fan on high works quite well.
When the air conditioner is “on”, more fuel is being used and horsepower is lost too.
I have a smaller vehicle and I always turn off the a/c when going up a hill.
