Does putting your car in neutral at any time during driving help increase fuel economy?
For example, if I’m idling at a red light, if I put the car in neutral, will that help improve fuel economy and save gas?

Not really no… If you’ve stopped at the lights your will either have your hand (parking) brake on or your clutch down so the engine will be idling anyway. Thus putting the gears into neutral won’t make a difference.
Plus… Don’t do this whilst driving either as if you’re coasting along in neutral (until you need more umph) you are not in complete control of your vehicle and if caught will be in trouble.
Just drive smoothly with no fast acceleration or harsh braking and keep your tires at the correct inflation and you’ll be ok.
For an automatic? Maybe when you are coasting to a stop, but the savings is very minimum.
You can save gas by not driving as hard and keeping proper tire pressure.
