Does putting your car A/c on and off every five to ten minutes (to save gas) actually help? or ruin the AC? ?
my sister always puts the ac off when she stops for a little bit at a traffic light or anywhere. i told her its not good for the compressor as its constantly coming on and off. just looking for some verification. she claims it saves gas and also ligthens alot of load on the engine. but its a brand new car, so i dont know. thanks.

it does both and help the environment
the only thing it will do is wear out the on off switch if the air con works properly it will turn off when temp in the car lowers to set temp and sitting at the lights while red will cool down the motor if the compresor is on as it brings on the thermo fan the amount of fuel saved would be incredible maybe 1ltr a year just think if she realy wanted to save fuel she could turn off the motor or realy realy save fuel walk
The cost of using your AC is very small. Use your AC and be comfortable. Cycling your AC can cause very expensive repairs, so in the long run you save nothing. If you are that concerned about cost walk or take public transport.
