No.
Most newer vehicles use a pre-programmed fuel cut strategy when coasting in gear – it relays on the fuel for the idle to keep the engine running when in neutral.
Well I think it should be saving gas because the motor would be running on idle rpm instead of the higher rpm of the gear in which you would drive down. However, you won’t be able to use the engine compression to reduce speed that way, so you will need to brake. I think though that you won’t save enough gas to make it worthy driving down in neutral.
lol, it would be the same if you just coasted down the hill
